Research Reveals the Most Played iGaming Titles

Online gambling is definitely on the rise across Canada and last month, Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, issued a report breaking down some players’ preferences. In collaboration with Fantini Research, the gambling research firm collected data from approximately 8,200 digital casino games, offered across the country by provincial lottery and third-party operators.

Previously, the two parties compiled a report on the U.S. gambling scene, but now their efforts were put into breaking down Canadians’ picks. The report featured data from provincial lottery operators and third-party brands that operate legally or in the grey market. It turns out the preferences of Canadian online gamblers are not quite the same as to those of Americans.

Results for December

As stated, the research was done on provincial and private operators, however, the exact names were not provided by the two companies. For December 2023, Pragmatic Play, one of the industry’s most prominent iGaming developers, took the number one spot, as its hit title Sweet Bonanza was the most-played online casino title among Canadian gaming enthusiasts.

After that, it was Light & Wonder’s Jin Ji Bao Xi Endless Treasure which took the second most popular spot among Canadians. The top three for the month were completed by Live Dealer Roulette from Evolution. Meanwhile, IGT’s Cash Eruption was in fourth place, while Pragmatic Play had another title in the top five, Gates of Olympus.

Then at the number six spot stood Live Dealer Blackjack by Evolution, and the Live Casino offering was followed by another title from the studio, Live Dealer Baccarat. After that Everi’s slot product Cash Machine was in the eighth place. The top ten was completed by IGT, as its Blackjack table game and Cleopatra slot title were in the ninth and tenth spots, respectively.

However, Pragmatic Play continued to dominate the market in another category, which was gross gaming revenue. According to the report, the leading iGaming supplier held a share of 18.6% of the Canadian market. Evolution was in second with 16.1%, IGT was closely behind with 15.2%, while Light and Wonder was next with 11.1%, hence forming the top four in Canada.

Ontario Leads Canadian Markets

It comes as no surprise that Ontario’s iGaming sector is the leading one across the Great White North. Based on 2022-23 fiscal year reports, Ontario has recorded a staggering CA$1.961B in internet gambling revenue. These numbers notably surpass those of British Columbia with CA$440M, Québec with CA$403.9M, and the Atlantic provinces with CA$100.1M.

However, where does Ontario rank among the top markets on the continent? In its first year, it generated CA$940M in revenue. This puts the jurisdiction in the top two markets when compared to the first full year of Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. this translates to around US$711 million and does not include proceeds from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.’s PROLINE.
